New name for spotters area
30.05.10
Manchester Airport has renamed its ‘aviation viewing park’ because many visitors thought it was a museum, the Evening News reports. The area will now be called the ‘runway visitor park’ to reflect its main purpose - whilst it is home to five iconic planes, including a Concorde and Nimrod, most people go the the area to watch planes take off and land.
The newspaper reports feedback from visitors showed many wrongly assumed the park was a museum and felt the name was ambiguous. The airport is also hoping the change will make the site more family-friendly and sound more contemporary. New signs have been put up around the airport but a spokesman sai the change of name will cost a ‘minimal’ amount.
