bmibaby to focus on citybreak destinations
04.04.10
The acting boss of low-cost airline bmibaby said growth plans from Manchester Airport would concentrate on niche routes and European city break destinations, the Evening News reports. Julian Carr announced bmibaby, which has flown over 5.4m passengers in seven years of operations at Manchester, would no longer compete with rivals on routes to popular vacation resorts such as Malaga and Alicante, but would as an alternative develop its network to niche locations in countries such as France, beginning with Lourdes in April.
bmibaby at present operates flights to 12 destinations, such as Bordeaux, Toulouse, Perpignan, Lisbon, and Knock in Ireland. It has seventy eight employees and two planes based at Manchester. It plans to add extra flights to locations that are popular for city breaks, with Venice, Munich and Madrid rumoured to be in its sights for next year.
