Manchester and Heathrow airport campaigners hold joint tea party
08.02.10
Campaigners fighting the expansion of Manchester Airport joined forces with a village set for destruction if Heathrow gets a third runway for a joint tea party yesterday. Four 200-year-old cottages on Hasty Lane in Altrincham will be demolished when Manchester Airport expand its cargo facilities next year. Peter Johnson, who will lose his home, held a tea party with residents in Sipson village near a via video link.
The dispute between the families living on Hasty Lane and Manchester Airport has been simmering for the past two years. The airport says it needs ‘modern facilities for the future’. It owns the properties, which it has rented for the past two years. Plans that will see the destruction of four homes, were passed by Manchester City Council in December.
