‘Naked’ scanner moves to Terminal 1
09.06.10
A full-body scanner that produces 'naked' images of passengers is being moved to Manchester Airport Terminal 1, the Evening News reports. The airport is to move one of the controversial scanners from Terminal 2 this week, in order to reduce security queues.
The X-ray machine produces two images that allow security staff to see through passengers clothes to reveal hidden weapons and explosives. However, the passenger appears naked in the images, and this has proved controversial. Passengers selected to go through the machines must do so, or they will be barred from flying.
A spokesman for the airport said that one of the three £80,000 Rapiscan scanners is being relocated to Terminal 1 because of positive feedback from passengers and security staff.
