10.11.09
Passengers dropped by 11.1 percent at Manchester Airport last month - to 1.6 million from 1.8m last year. Charter flight passengers fell by 12.7 percent to just over 515,000, as holiday airlines continued to struggle. Freight, measured in tonnes, was down 10.8 percent to 10,494 tonnes.
Andrew Harrison, Manchester Airport's commercial director, said: ‘Times are tough for the industry, so the drop in passengers isn’t a surprise. We’re still looking at increasing our numbers for the winter season by attracting those looking for winter sun, or to take advantage of the ski season.'
