Passengers down 10.5% in February

Passenger numbers fell at Manchester Airport by 10.5% to 1 million in February when compared with the same period in 2009. Domestic passengers were down 4%, scheduled international down 9.5 percent and charter passengers down 17%.
In the 12 months to the end of February total passenger numbers were down 11.7percent to 18.5 million and cargo is down 20.4% to 105,688 tonnes. In the month of February cargo was down % to 8,075 tonnes. A spokesman for the airport said the global economic downturn is the reason for the fall in passengers.
