Runway refurbishment could take a year

A planned refurbishment of Manchester Airport’s runway could take up to a year, bosses have revealed in an online video about the work, which will cause night flights to be diverted for several months.
The airport plans to shut its main runway at night next year for refurbishment, rewiring and the replacement of lights. Simon Butterworth, head of airfield strategy, said the project could take between 10 months and a year, but could not give an exact length or dates for the closure, because issues such as materials and methods had not yet been resolved.
