Manchester Airport will be getting an additional £1m in revenue as a result of 25,000 Manchester United fans flying to Moscow to see the Premiership Champions take on Chelsea in the Champions League final on May 21.
Airport officials have more than 20 people working with airlines to put on hundreds of additional flights to meet the demand for Manchester - Moscow flights. It is bringing in additional security staff and Russian speakers to help passengers as they fly in and out.
The airport also is expecting up to 10,000 Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg fans flying in for next week’s UEFA Cup Final in Manchester. A Manchester Airport spokeswoman would not say how much additional revenue these passengers would bring in.
Manchester Airport managing director Andrew Cornish said: ‘The airport is gearing up for a very busy 10 days, with the hundreds of football flights. We’re looking forward to the challenge.’
