Passenger numbers at Manchester Airport slumped by 10% last month. A total of 2,036,957 passengers passed through the airport's 3 terminals in July, down from 2.3m in the same month last year.
There were nearly 150,000 fewer charter passengers (down 16%), while the number of scheduled travellers was down by just over 47,000 (4.4%). On domestic routes, passenger numbers were down by just over 32,000 (12.3%). Overall, there were 16,473 aircraft movements compared with 19,500 in July last year.
In the year to date, total passenger numbers at the airport have fallen 10.8% to 7,054,17. Freight was 29% down at 8,597 tonnes compared with July 2008. In the year to date, freight is down 35% at 32,281 tonnes.
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said it expected better figures this month, because of a last minute bookings rush as the bad summer weather puts people off the idea of holidaying at home.
