16 holidaymakers heading for Manchester Airport, including children, were taken to hospital after a minibus overturned on a motorway. One man suffered serious injuries as he was thrown from the vehicle as it landed on its roof in the middle of the M60 near Prestwich on Thursday night.
The group had been heading to Manchester Airport when their minibus suffered a burst tyre, spun out of control and crashed into two cars. Witnesses at the scene said there was a ‘sea of bodies’ on the carriageway. However, most of the passengers, who were from Bradford, suffered only minor injuries. The occupants in the two other vehicles were uninjured.
Three fire engines, police and ambulances attended the incident and the road was closed for 30 minutes while debris was cleared. A fire service spokesman said: ‘There were 6 people on spinal boards, of those 3 were more seriously injured. The rest were walking wounded, with cuts and bruises and suffering from shock. The children did not suffer serious injuries. The man who flew out of the minibus had serious but not life-threatening injuries.'
