New security area opened

Manchester Airport has opened a new £10m security screening area, Crain's reports. The new area will speed up security checks leading to shorter delays at an airport that has been rated by passengers as one of the worst in the UK. The airport has also decided to close all ‘pre security’ shops and restaurants in order to encourage passengers to fast track thorough the security area.
More than £2.2m has been spent on new X-ray machines, which provide full colour, 3-D images of the contents of hand baggage. Vapour-testing machines to sniff out any unauthorised liquids have also been installed.
Ten security lanes are now fully operational in Terminal One with 4 more due to be opened in June in time for the summer holiday peak. New staff have been taken on and existing employees have been given training on the new equipment.
Manchester Airport managing director Andrew Cornish said: ‘We have been quick to respond to what our passengers told us they wanted, which was hassle-free security screening. The new screening area is a big step forward. We’ve got new, faster, X-ray machines, more security lanes than ever and a specially designed security hall to put passengers as ease during what we know is one of the most stressful parts of air travel.’
