CAA report near miss
17.05.08
A holiday jet was involved in a near miss in the skies over Manchester, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has revealled. The Airbus A320, which can carry up to 150 passengers, was in an incident with a light aircraft as it came in to land at Manchester Airport.
The CAA said an official report has been filed on the incident, which happened at 17:40 on March 7. An investigation has been ordered by by the UK Airprox Board.
The CAA said in a statement: ‘The A320 was en-route to Manchester Airport and receiving an air traffic service from the airport. The incident took place at approximately 3000ft. These details are subject to assessment by the independent UK Airprox Board.’
The airline that owns the A320 will not be named in the report. We know GB Airways (now part of easyJet) operates the planes from Manchester Airport, but it sounds like it might have been a charter airline like Thomas Cook.
