Private pilot has lucky escape ar City Airport

A private pilot had a lucky escape when his light aircraft crashed on landing at the City Airport, Manchester over the weekend, the Manchester Evening News reports. Eye witnesses told the newspaper that they saw the plane being tossed about by the wind before skirting over the clubhouse, slicing the top off a tree, and landing in a hedge.
Anaesthetist Ahmed Eskander, from Rochdale, lost control of his Denney Kitfox two-seater plane as he came in to land at the airport. An eyewitness told the newspaper: ‘He screwed up his landing and you could see he'd decided to put on full power and go back round for another attempt. But he went into a stall and was having to fight the wind. The plane almost flipped over, it was like something out of a James Bond film.'
‘The plane came whizzing past the roof of the clubhouse and everybody in there screamed. Then there was a loud bang. He'd crashed into trees and then flipped round into a hedge. He narrowly missed crashing into the cars in the car park and only the hedge stopped him from crashing onto Liverpool Road.'
‘It was surreal. Somehow he managed to pull himself out of the wreckage before collapsing on the ground. His legs looked like they were cut to the bone and it's no wonder when you saw the crushed cockpit.’
Mr Eskander, who has 600 hours' flying experience, was given stitches to his leg injuries and discharged from hospital.
