Snow closes airport for 1½ hours
20.12.09
Flights at Manchester Airport were grounded for 1½ hours this morning because of the snow. However, flights in and out of the airport have started to move again after snow and ice was cleared from runway one - the only runway being used over the Christmas period.
The travel plans of thousands of passengers were disrupted after the airport cancelled or suspended all services amid heavy snow. One return flight from Qatar was redirected to Birmingham Airport.
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said passengers should expect ‘some delays’ for the rest of today, but confirmed flights were ‘starting to move’. He said: ‘There will be some delays and we are telling passengers to contact their airlines if they are travelling over the next few days.’
