Live flight data and offers on Twitter
21.08.09
Manchester Airport's presence on social networking website Twitter is gathering pace. The airport has added live flight data service and discounting offers to Twitter.
The public can now use Twitter to receive updated flight information. It uses direct messaging to keep users up to the minute with delays, scheduling changes or other issues with their flight. When a user follows the airport and sends it a message with their flight number, it automatically follows them, sending updates on the status of the flight. The user can then message the word CANCEL to the airport to stop the updates.
The airport has also made money off vouchers available for users to access and 'retweet' - a process that enters them into a monthly prize draw where they can win £500 of airport shopping vouchers, free airport car park and a free airport hotel stay.
