Staff travel habits threaten carbon neutral goal
22.04.08
Efforts to encourage people to travel to Manchester Airport using public transport are not having much effect on the airport's own employees, new figures reveal. The results of its 2007 employee travel survey show the number driving to work on their own dropped by just 1 percent compared to 2006, which threatens the airports stated goal of being carbon neutral from their ground operations.
According to the survey, 79 percent of airport employees travel to work by car, including 69 percent who travel alone. The number of staff using the bus increased by 1 percent to 9 percent and train usage was 3 percent, up from 2 percent in 2006. 2 percent go by bike, 2 percent walk, 1 percent use motorcycles and mopeds and 2 percent come by taxi.
