Flight delay after passengers see sparks
23.05.08
Passengers flying to Israel from Manchester Airport on Tuesday had a lucky escape after sparks were seen coming from one of the Thomsonfly aircraft’s engines. The incident happened as the plane was making its way to the runway for take-off.
Passengers spotted the sparks and alerted the crew. The captain returned the plane to the stand and called the fire brigade, who surrounded the plane while passengers disembarked.
The passengers were given refreshment vouchers and another aircraft was deployed, with the flight finally taking off after a 6 hour delay. However, the return flight from Tel Aviv to Manchester was affected by the cabin crew exceeding their legally permitted operating hours.
The return flight was rescheduled to depart Wednesday morning, and passengers were given overnight accommodation at an airport hotel.
