Chemical incident sees airport closed
24.01.10
Police evacuated part of Manchester Airport yesterday and declared a ‘chemical incident’ after a man tried to carry a non-identified white powder onto a plane. The substance was later found to be harmless, and the check-in area reopened.
A police spokesman said: ‘Tests carried out on the substance have concluded it could not have been used for explosive purposes. There was absolutely no risk to anyone at the airport during the incident.'
