Aircraft cleaning business sold
24.05.08
An aircraft cleaning business set up by two Manchester Airport workers has been sold to a subsidiary of global giant BBA Aviation for an undisclosed sum.
Flygiene, which is based at the airport, was established by Kevin Wynne, 45, and John Kennerley, 55, 5 years ago after they were made redundant from passenger-handling company Servisair. Both are staying on following the sale of the business to Aircraft Service International Group (ASIG).
The company, which cleans the inside of aircraft between journeys, is expecting turnover of £2.3m this year, has 100 staff and also operates at Birmingham Airport. It has contracts with over 30 airlines including Delta, VLM and Emirates.
A spokesman for ASIG said that it expects to recruit an additional 20 people this year as it signs up more airlines. The company already has an aircraft cleaning operation at Heathrow and a refuelling services operation at Manchester Airport.
