25.02.08
A GB Airways plane was forced to divert to Turkey after the co-pilot (first officer) died mid-flight. The holiday flight was carrying 156 passengers from Manchester Airport to Paphos in Cyprus yesterday afternoon.
The captain of GB Airways flight BA 6826, an Airbus A320, landed safely in Istanbul at 17:45 after what was termed a 'medical emergency on the flight deck'. The co-pilot was pronounced dead once the plane had landed.
A spokesman for the airline said that passengers were not in danger at any point. They will be flown on to Cyprus today.
