Cargo up 10.3% in 2007
27.02.08
Manchester Airport had a strong year for its cargo business in 2007, with volumes increasing 10.3% to 166,500 tonnes. In an interview with International Freighting Weekly, Michael O'Connor, the airport's cargo manager, described the achievement as ‘incredible’ given that the UK market saw little growth over the 12 months.
He said: ‘While growth early in the year was modest, the momentum gained from 5 new freighter services we attracted from spring onwards that gave a significant boost to our volumes as the year progressed.’
Airlines starting new freighter services to Manchester last year included Chinese cargo airline Great Wall Airlines, Singapore cargo airline Jett8, FedEx Express, Air China Cargo and Aeroflot Cargo.
