Airport cleaners vote to strike
27.06.08
Cleaners at Manchester Airport have voted in favour of industrial action in a dispute over pay. Just under 95% of Initial Air Services staff have backed strike action after the company imposed a 2% pay offer that had previously been rejected by the 200 Unite members, who are responsible for cleaning Manchester Airport.
Sharon Cowell from Unite said members had ‘no choice’ but to proceed with action after bosses refused to hold ‘meaningful negotiations.’ However, Initial said it is engaged in ongoing dialogue with the union and it will ‘continue to seek a resolution to the situation’.
