Plane diverts over irregular smell
28.03.10
A Flybe aircraft bound for Belfast from Leeds Bradford with 72 passengers on board had to divert to Manchester Airport on Friday evening because of an 'irregular smell', the Belfast Telegraph reports. Flybe flight BE732 was on route to Belfast City when the pilot reported an ‘irregular smell’ within the cock-pit shortly after take-off.
The airline said the plane was diverted as a ‘precautionary measure.’ A Flybe spokeswoman said: ‘At no time did the Captain request any emergency service back-up, but, as is standard industry practice, Manchester Airport placed emergency services on standby. Passengers were flown to Belfast City while engineers investigated the cause of the technical problem.’
