Airport runway work to begin
29.03.10
Manchester Airport is to start a programme of taxiway improvements and repair that will see planes use runway two throughout the night from April 11 until August 13. Runway two is normally solely used during the day, with runway one used at night.
An airport spokesman said: ‘We will carry out work which will involve widening a number of taxiways to reflect the more modern and large aircraft types now utilizing Manchester Airport. The programme will require 18 weeks of night time runway closures to carry out. Runway two will be used as the only runway between 22:30 and 06:00 hours between Sunday and Thursday from 22:30 hours on Sunday, April 11 until 06:30 hours on Friday, August 13 2010.'
The airport sent letters to local householders last week, detailing the work and when it will be carried out. For more information on the works visit manchesterairport.co.uk/runwayclosures.
