Flypast by vintage bomber
29.09.09
Aviation enthusiasts enjoyed a rare treat when a Cheshire-built Vulcan bomber performed a flypast at Manchester Airport last weekend. The subject of a recent £8m restoration, XH588 was en route to Southport Air Show when it visited the airport.
The iconic relic of the Cold War era was flown in combat during the famous Black Buck missions during the Falklands conflict, when the airfield at Port Stanley was bombed. XH558 was the last of the huge jets to fly in 1993 when it was put into storage at a Leicestershire airfield. After the expensive restoration, the bomber, which can reach speeds of up to 645 mph, has been visiting displays across the country, and was in Oxfordshire at RAF Brize Norton two weekends ago.
